The Inauguration of the new Church Windows

On the first Sunday of advent in 2003 Reverend Müller made the community familiar with the new colourful church windows in a solemn service.

An anonymous donator had proposed to create a new interior, because he had found the old one too trivial. He longed for a more sensitive room from which would stream out a warmer and more colourful atmosphere which would make the community feel at home. He liked giving €15.000 and ,thus, he laid the basis for the churchroom´s renovation. Dr. Hoppe- Oehl who had been the woman leader of the Museum for Glasspainting in Linnich, had married a man who came from a family in Rhena, and it was her who adviced the community of Bömighausen to get into contact with the Glasspainting Manufactury Peters and the painter and sculptor Tobias Kammerer in Paderborn. He made the first plans and designs, and the colourful windows were created in Paderborn, too. They are not caught in lead like they used to have been in former times and look like lectures in pictures. The seven smaller ones in the back wall did cost €540 each and were given by the families of Bärenfänger and Römer, Fritz Koch, Friedrich Koch, Rainer Pöttner with Renate Pöttner, Friedrich Zölzer, the Waldecker Bank and the associations with the local authorities. The windows standing face to face deal with two chapters: The larger ones show scenes from Jesus´ life, the small ones report the genesis. The five large pictures show:

Annunciation to Maria:

Annunciation to Maria: Lk 1,26-38

The Angel appears in flaming red, he straightly comes from God´s red – glooming fire- aura. From the left, from a hidden world He steps forward into sight holding a lily in His hand, as a sign of the good news. Maria, kneeling to His feet, is wearing a light-blue gown. From outside, the outer world shines in, wherever the window pane stayed transparent: some trees are moving their branches in the wind.

And in the sixth month God sent the Angel Gabriel to a town in Galilee called Nazareth. He was sent to a virgin being married to a man named Joseph from David´s house; and the virgin was named Maria.

And the Angel stepped in and said:” Hail to you, who is blessed! The Lord is with you!”

And the Angel stepped in and spoke: „Hail to you, blessed one! The Lord is with you!"

But she got shocked by the Angel´s words and thought: “What kind of salutation is this?” And the Angel spoke to her:” Look, you will get pregnant and give birth to a son, and you are obliged to name him Jesus. He will be great, and He will be called `Son of the Highest`; and the Lord will give Him His father David´s throne, and He will reign as King eternally the House of Jacob, and His kingdom will never end”.

Maria answered the Angel: “ How is this possible as I do not know anything about a man?” The Angel continued: “ The Holy Ghost will come down on you and the power of the Highest will throw His shadow over you; therefore the Holy one will be called `The Son of God`.”

But Maria said:” Look, I am the Lord´s maid, everything that you told me, may happen to me.” And the Angel left her.

Christmas Joh 1,14.16

And the Word became flesh and stayed among us, and we saw His majesty, a majesty showing God Father´s one born Son, filled with grace and truth.

And out of His abundance we all took grace after grace.

The Lord´s Supper: Luke. 22,7.8.14-20
Then came the day of Unleavened Bread, on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.
The Lord´s Supper
And Jesus sent Peter and John, saying: Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat it”.

And, when the hour came, He sat at table, and the apostles with Him. And Jesus spoke to them:” I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; for I tell you I shall not eat it until it´s fulfilled in the kingdom of God."

And He took the cup, and when He had given thanks, He said:“Take this and divide it among yourselves, for I tell you that from now on I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.

And He took bread, and when He had given thanks He broke it and gave it to them saying: This is my body given for you do so for my remembrance."

He also took the cup after the meal and said:” This cup is the new union in my blood being poured out for you!“

Passion: Mrc. 15,24f.27.34-37

And they nailed Him to the cross and distributed His clothes casting lots. And they crucified Him on the third hour of the day. They crucified two robbers together with Him, one to His right, the other one to the left of Him. And by the ninth hour Jesus cried out loudly:” Eli, Eli, lama asabtani?” That means:“My God, my God, why did you leave me?“

And some of those who were just standing by said hearing this:“ Look, He is calling Elia.”

One of them filled a sponge with vinegar, fastened it to a piece of reed, made Him drink and said:“ Stop, let us see whether or not Elia will come to take Him down!“But Jesus cried loudly and died.

  Easter: Joh 14,1-3.6

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth, we have beheld His glory, glory as the only Son from the Father Easter

Jesus Christ says: !  Believe in God and believe in me!
In my father´s house there are many habitats. If there were not, would I have told you:`I will go there to prepare that place?
And if I go there to prepare that place for you, I will return and take you with me, because then you will dwell, where I will stay.
I am the way, the truth and Life, no one comes to Godfather without me.”

The Announcement ot the Archangel Gabriel on Maria´s Day belongs to the Cyclus of Christ in the altar wall , and Jesus´Birth, the Supper, the Crucification and the Raise from the Dead as well. 1st Day of Creation

The seven small windows are according to the Genesis

1st Day of Creation

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the face of the waters. And God spoke: “Let there be light!” And there was light. And God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “Day” and the darkness “Night”.

(Gen. l, 1-5) 2nd Day of Creation

 2nd Day of Creation

And God said:“ Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters below from the waters above the firmament.” And God created the firmament and separated the waters. And it was that way. God called the firmament “Heaven”.(Gen. l, 6-8)3rd Day of Creation

3rd Day of Creation

And God spoke:“ Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear”. And it was so. And God called the dry land „Earth“ and the waters that were gathered together „Seas“. And God saw, that it was good. And God spoke:“ Let the earth put forth vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind.” And God saw, that it was good.

(Gen. 1,9-11)

4th Day of Creation

And God spoke:“ Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to separate the day from the night; and 4th Day of Creationlet them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years, and let them be in the firmament to give light upon the earth! And it was so. God made two lights: the greater one to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night, He made the stars also.

(Gen. l, 14-16)

5th Day of Creation:

And God spoke:“ Let the waters bring forth swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the firmament of the heavens.” (Gen. l, 20)

 5th Day of Creation

 6th Day of Creation:

And God said:”Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds: cattle and creeping things, and beasts of the earth according to their kinds”. And it was so. (Gen. l, 24) Then God said:“ Let us make man in our image, after 6th Day of Creationour likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air and over the cattle and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.“ So God created man in His own image, in the image of God. He created him; male and female, He created them. (Gen. l, 26-27)

7th Day of Creation

7th Day of Creation:

Thus, the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the rest of them. And on the seventh day God finished His work He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. And God blessed the Seventh Day, and He hallowed it, because on it God rested from all His work which He had done in creation. These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created.“ (Gen. 2, 1-4)

(Reverend Erika Eckhardt, PR- commissioner for the district of Waldeck-Marburg)

Now the visitors are fascinated by the windows and those seem to stream out a kind of magic. At first sight the impression is lightness and cheerness. The colours are warm and the figures seem spotted like water coloured pictures.

Those who have a more intensive look at the windows will feel some kind of joy, even happiness, because of the strong effect of the colours: the clear deep blue, warm red, light green and golden yellow.

The anonymous donator surely will be pleased. Reverend Matthias Müller handed over the great- hearted donation of 15.000 EURO to the community connecting it with the wish, the new interior of the church may become even more than a home for the people by those beauriful windows. They should be motivated to visit church and services. Heart and feelings – that is the donator´s sight – may be stimulated by the colourful windows. Everyone should like visiting the church,.

This service was marked by thankfulness, because the inition of a single person had been taken over successfully by many other people. The great donation was followed by many more gifts from private persons, unions, the magistrates of the village, the political community of Willingen and the clerical community oft he county.

The solemn service was formed by Florian Kraft (organ), the Choir Bömighausen-Alleringhausen-Neerdar and the piano - trio of Hans Bärenfänger.

Tobias Kammerer, born in1968 in Rottweil, an artist who created numerous interiors of churches, e.g. St. Catherine´s in Kiew, with glass-art, paintings and sculptures. Therefore he got various awards. Describing the cyclus of Jesus Christ´s life in the altar wall and “telling” the genesis in the seven small windows in the back wall of the chapel he developed a conception by which God´s Union is taken to the people: “ Jesus´ birth“, the artist says, “ makes a new Genesis possible. Giving Christ to mankind God promises His creation that His creatures will be saved by His love.”

Kammerer´s project was manufactured by ”Peters Glasspainters“ in Paderborn. Above all it is the lightness that is fascinating. This lightness comes from a special technic: There are no leadlines which mark the figures´ contours, and coloured glass is melted directly upon the glass base. But in spite of the leadless technic: Lead is needed, though, to make the colours shine, and so it is added.

The colours blue and red are also the colours of the elements water and fire, habitat of God´s Holy Spirit. Already children get impressed of the blue sky, and, although this sky can be ready to get dark, the sky shows ist intensive blue colour again and again. Every child becomes joyful, when it feels the warmth oft he brightly shining sun with the golden light and its warm red and orange timbre during sunset and sundown.

Very ancient impressions which go back to the first beginnings of human life are the basis on which colour symbols and their effects are founded. Blue, so the artist says, is a symbol for faith, desire, retun and believing. The disciples of Jesus on the last supper window wear blue gowns, except Judas. His colour is the trist grey colour of the cross and the torture tools. These dark nuances dominate in the crucifying scene. But Jesus, the crucified Son of God, appears in dark red, a sign that stands for the never ending most intensive love, that one which abandons itself for the others.

Golden yellow as a colour of divine manifestation gives a feeling of warmth and happiness. On the first day of creation God´s creative spirit, the light which gives life to all the creatures moves over the waters.Golden yellow points out the new creation by Jesus Christ (see announcement window) and He who raised up moves to heaven in shining yellow.

Right in the centre oft he altar wall reigns Christ in warm orange colour as light in the world. The artist is convinced: “in reciprocation of colour , room, music and word become things higher to one another.”

People could feel this on advent 1 st during the service for the first time. A completely new roon has been created which may be helpful that the visitors of the small church “ can open their own lifehouse´s windows and doors for the light of Jesus.”, as the female provost Elisabeth Schönborn wished the community. Sigurd Kronborn who installed the lights outside is named here as an example for the various helpers with the construction of the church´s interior.

The following photo shows the “living connection” between the unions in our community. It was taken during the “village week”, which was finished in the manege of Bömighausen. Another good example for excellent teamwork of the various unions was thanksgiving.

Additional Translation of the German text:

Thanksgiving “round the Potato”

According to the item”… Get into the Potatoes°” the annual Thanksgiving service of the church district Rhena – Bömighausen- Neerdar – Alleringhausen took place last Sunday. (Date not mentioned). 240 visitors travelled through potato- history. Some inhabitants of Bömighausen performed Spanish riders and seamen bringing the “soil- apples” to Europe, and one of them read Frederic the Great´s new edict that should make the farmers grow the new “fruit” to solve famine and misery. Some farmer women told about the different methods of cultivating the potatoes in the 1950s and today. The riders’ union had decorated the hall autumnly with harvest products and strawbunches and a cross made of oats. The children sat on strawbunches in the first row, and the music club Rhena played music according to the service.

° … a German proverb. It means getting into hard work…
